Building a vision for teaching, leading, and learning in digital environments.

Catherine Poling is the owner of Project Loop, a consulting and project services company based out of North Carolina. 

​She was formerly the Executive Director of Professional Learning and Leadership Development for Charlotte Mecklenburg Public Schools, the 18th largest school district in the country (as measured by enrollment).  Catherine has supervised the following departments in CMS: Personalized Learning, Instructional Technology,  Virtual Learning and Media Services,  Success by Design, National Board Certification, Teacher Professional Development, Lateral Entry, and Leadership Development. She has supported a district reorganization shifting to a vision of professional learning as a component of a larger Human Resources strategy. In addition, she has reimagined and realigned departments within her team to provide a structure to support all CMS educators and district leaders and has established the departments of Personalized Digital Learning and Beginning Teacher Development and Support and a cohesive alignment of professional learning through career pathways.  

Prior to moving to North Carolina, Catherine was the principal of Emma K Doub Elementary School, an Apple Distinguished School, in Hagerstown, Maryland.  She is an Apple Distinguished Educator, Class of 2015 and an Apple Certified Teacher (2016). Catherine served on the Board of Directors and was President of Common Ground, Inc. and was the Co-Chair for the annual Common Ground Conference in Ocean City, Maryland, a professional development event facilitated by 15 professional organizations and hosting over 1200 educators. Catherine served as the team leader for the Leadership Team of MITAC, Maryland Instructional Technology Advisory Council, the Past President of the Council of Educational Administrative and Supervisory Organizations of Maryland (CEASOM) and the Maryland Society of Educational Technology (MSET).  She chaired the Scholarship and Educator & Leader Awards for MSET.  Catherine has also served as the Co-Chair for the Washington County Public Schools Digital Learning Team, co-chaired the Standards Based Report Card Committee, and has authored several multi-touch books which are available in the iBook Store.  Catherine is the 2015 Outstanding Leader Using Technology Award Winner and the 2013 Making IT Happen Award Winner for MSET (ISTE).
